Culture Booster

Overview

Culture Booster is a platform for human resource managers. They maximize employee lifetime value by transforming culture in meaningful, measurable ways with remarkable outcomes.

The founder believes the best way to achieve this is by helping organizations create environments conducive to people bringing their best selves to work each day—enabling employees to consistently give their head, heart, and hands to their work and workplace.

What they want to learn

Culture Booster staff, leadership, and stakeholders wish to extend their website by exploring two new features to the website: "STARs" and "Suggestions." They want to learn how the features would be integrated within the platform. They'd like to learn how to serve the community better and reach its intended goals through the website evaluation process.

Site goals

  • Create a STAR feature for the website and categorize STARs into three groupings: STARs Given, STARs Received, and All STARs.

  • Create a "Suggestion" feature for the website and categorize the suggestions into groups: have an idea, submit an idea, idea under review, an idea set in motion, an idea implemented.

Primary users

  • Executives looking for data to inform their strategy

  • Managers looking for support to reach their goals

  • Employees looking for true empowerment to increase engagement

My role

My teammates and I reviewed the goals of Culture Booster and came up with a plan.

Research goals

How likely would users be delighted with the two new features: STARs and Suggestions?

How would the features function?

What would the interface design be?

Competitive audit

My group and I first researched what websites are similar to Culture Booster. We conducted a website competitive audit to identify features, flows, processes, UI elements, etc., that are identical, different, or valuable for Culture Booster. We used Google Sheets to collaborate and synthesize our findings.

I visually modeled the existing process that I heard the client communicate during the stakeholder interview and anything I learned about the current process from the competitive analysis. I documented what I learned and included my assumptions in a user journey map.

  • What the individuals in this problem space are doing, feeling, and thinking.

  • The touchpoints (e.g. software, tools) that are used as well as human-to-human interactions that are involved.

  • The pain points and opportunity areas within the problem space.

Feature cards

Based on my rapid research, I prototyped five ways a user could address the goals of Culture Booster's new or expanded features. I created low-fidelity sketches and wrote scenarios to explain the features and what it does for the user. These sketches helped the developer to provide a development budget. The Kano survey had the development budget. We each posted our five feature cards to the class FigJam whiteboard. Everyone voted on the ten feature cards we used to create the Kano survey.

Kano analysis

Building on the feature cards, a Kano survey was sent to seven participants selected by the stakeholder to complete. As a group, we determined and executed a method for making sense of the survey data provided. We compiled our findings and raw data onto a Figma whiteboard and synthesized each participant's notes and findings.

Annotated designs

I picked the features to make annotated designs based on the Kano analysis and development budget. Working with the developer, I determined an estimated budget for the new features.

Conclusion

Culture Booster's new features will provide human resource managers with additional tools to transform workplace culture in meaningful, measurable ways with remarkable outcomes.

Also, the new features will support the founder's intention to help organizations create environments that bring out people's best selves each workday—enabling employees to consistently give their head, heart, and hands to their work and workplace.

"The level of detail, thoughtfulness, creativity, depth and technical expertise shown in each project is remarkable.”
